March 7, 2007 - March 8, 2007

San Antonio, Texas (TX) - Full Trisomy 13.

We are the Palacios family from  My name is Stacey and my husband is Carlos. Our first baby, Philip Cole, was born with full trisomy 13 on March 7, 2007.

We found out about Philip's condition via amnio when I was 22 weeks pregnant. Without hesitation, Carlos and I decided to give our a baby a chance. After 41 weeks pregnant, my doctor decided to induce. I spent two days in labor before having a cesarean section delivery. Philip Cole was born at 2:07am. Our whole family gave up sleep for the night to stay in the hospital and spend time with the baby.

Philip was 21 inches long and weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces. He had a cleft lip and palette, 6 fingers on each hand and several sores on the back of his scalp. We never had any tests done, so we do not have any information about internal abnormalities. His first day was full of good news. He was breathing on his own and was trying to suck on a bottle.

We had Philip on a feeding tube through his mouth but were hopeful that he would eventually be feeding from a bottle. We met with a social worker and representatives from hospice and the children's hospital. Although we planned on comfort care, the early signs were positive and we assumed we would be able to take Philip home.

The following day, Philip's temperature dropped after his morning feeding. We tried warming him up with heat pads, but his breathing was weak and his temperature did not come back up.

Philip passed at 11:05am on March 8, 2007. We had a service at our church on March 10th and were overwhelmed with how many people came.

Although his life was short, we would never have changed our minds. Philip was the biggest blessing in our lives. He brought out the best in us and our families. This website offered us support during my pregnancy and now as well. We hope our story can do the same for other families. Please feel free to email us at staceydalas@yahoo.com

God Bless,
Stacey & Carlos Palacios
