Atlanta, Georgia (GA) - Full Trisomy 13

My son Ke’Shun Amir was fully diagnosed 6 days after his birth. I had a normal pregnancy and did not know what to expect when I had a meeting with the hospital doctor @ Rockdale. My meeting with the Dr. was devastating. He stated that my son was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 and that he would not be compatible to life and that he would not live pass 2 months old and that he wanted to send him home on hospice. This meeting was not good - hearing all bad things about my son whom was lying in the NICU unit helpless.

I wanted to take my baby home so that he could receive all the love from his family and friends. Ke’Shun was not able to come home until February 15, 2006 which actually was his due date. He came home with a NG tube for feeding; however, he did not like the tube at all and began to take it out on his own several times. At 2 months old Ke’Shun removed the NG tube and began to suck a bottle.

He was progressing very well and every one in the medical field that came across Ke’Shun could not believe of his diagnosis. At 11 months old Ke’Shun contracted the RSV virus and was hospitalized back and forth for some weeks/months. At that time the doctors noticed that he was working very hard to breath and did several different tests on him and it revealed that Ke’Shun was aspirating thin liquids. At which time, Ke’Shun was taken off the bottle and the NG tube was in once again. Of course he did not like it and we made weekly trips to Egleston to get his tube inserted back in. Now Ke’Shun has a G-tube which is going great for him. He only takes liquid through his g-tube and he eats pureed food by mouth.

Ke’Shun has changed my life for the better. I love my baby son dearly! When all of this happened, I did not know what I was going to do. I had never been faced with so many decisions to make for someone whom I love so dearly. Ke’Shun has really taught me the meaning of having FAITH and LIVING!

At the age of 16 months, Ke’Shun has touched so many people lives and people have touched his.

At this time I would like to give my sincere THANKS and APPRECIATION to my loving mother, my son and Ke’Shun brother Kendrick, his god-mother Nikki and Auntie Gert. I would like to also say MUCH Thanks to Dr. Runnette Flowers for all her of her support and guidance and not giving up on Ke’Shun and to the medical staff @ Children Healthcare @ Egleston – Dr. Lantis – Ke’Shun misses you but he’s being doing very WELL. Thanks again to the remaining family and friends that are supporting us.

I must say Prayer does Changes things!
