Scottsdale, Arizona (AZ) -
Trisomy 13 complete, diagnosed with Amnio on Feb 23, 2007
March
11, 2007 update.
We met with the neonatal cardiologist on Wednesday morning. The news was
more severe than suspected. I went home to lay down and digest the news that
Jennette’s heart was severely stressed with its deformations and could
possibly cause a still birth as she grew closer to term. I woke up from my
nap with constant contractions. We couldn’t get the contractions stopped and
later in the evening I began to hemorrhage and was rushed to the hospital.
My water then broke and labor was allowed to continue.
All the time we thought we’d have to prepare ourselves for a different kind
of birth, was now gone and we found ourselves in a life threatening
situation for me and scrambling to make memories for the family. Luckily the
nurse had the info for
http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org for pictures and Emily was
kindly willing to come out early in the morning and take some pictures for
us.
Jennette Angelique was born at 1:59 am on Friday, March 9th. She was 3
pounds 13.4 ounces 16 inches long. Due to her prematurely, we actually had
several hours with her that we may not have had if she had gone to term. She
quietly slipped away pronounced at 5:15 am. Emily sacrificed her time and
returned in the morning to picture our other children with Jennette and my
parents that were able to join us from Utah. This was a wonderful closure
moment for all of us. My parents had lost a son, Raymond, with Downs
Syndrome and heart troubles 39 year ago and never got to hold him.
I was released from the hospital on Saturday, and we are now planning a
grave side service in Utah at our family plot for Thursday.
I was only on this site a short time, but the info available and kind
support have made this challenging time less scary.
Thanks to all for thoughts and prayers.

--------
This is our 5th child. We have 2 boys and 2 girls. My body doesn’t handle
pregnancy well in the first place due to a herniated stomach wall, so I am
resting more that I am up and around. I’m hoping that by taking care of
myself, I will give Jeanette greater strength to survive as long as
possible. We are scheduling with doctors to find out as much as possible
about Jeanette’s specific conditions and what can be done for her. We look
forward to our little angel for however long we have her.
